While searching for interesting Provincial coins of Severus Alexander to collect, I came across the bronze coins of Moesia. Moesia covered the are fronting the Danube and extending all the way to the Black Sea in what is now Bulgaria. If you want to get a better idea of where it was in the Roman Empire, look at the following map. Here is also another map of the area.

The Danubian frontier was known to be a very unstable area. It contained numerous tribes including the native Moesi, and the Thracians and Dacians. Octavian conquered the area in 30 BC but it didn't become a full province until the reign of Tiberius. Domitian in 86 AD, split the upper area into Moesia Superior and the lower are into Moesia Inferior. Marcianopolis (also spelled Markianopolis) which became the capital of Moesia Inferior (modern day Rekna Devia, Bulgaria) has recently provided collectors with a wealth of coins. Many of these coins were minted in the time of Severus Alexander.
What I find most interesting and collectable about many of these coins is the dual busts on the obverse. They can be of either Severus Alexander with his grandmother Julia Maesa or with his mother Julia Mamaea. The reverses also have many interesting personifications and gods.
